Chapter 13

Thor walked into Loki's room the next morning with Loki's breakfast.

"Where's (name)?" Loki sat up to stare at his brother.

"She took today off." Thor slammed the tray on the table causing Loki to flinch. "She said you were abusive to her the other day and she needed a break."

Loki rolled his eyes and went down the stairs to his breakfast.

"Brother, what did you do to her? She even came in after you tricked her and escaped, you must have really crossed a line this time."

"I lost my temper." Loki put a piece of bread in his mouth. "No big deal."

"No big deal? You drove yet another person away!"

"She hasn't quit yet has she?"

"No."

"Then I have yet to drive her away."

"That is not the point, Brother!"

Loki stood and turned towards the window. "The good thing about her sulking is she has ceased to bring those Midgardian sweets. They were so rich, I could practically feel them putting weight on me."

Thor looked at Loki warily. "We did not tell her to make sweets."

"No, she did it on her own. Perhaps she thought I'd be less of a threat if I was fat. I wouldn't put it past her, she is actually quite clever."

"Loki." Thor said. "I believe the Midgardians have a phrase that may apply in this situation."

"Hmm?"

"They say on Midgard that food is love."

Loki's smug expression faded. "What?"

"Food is love. On Midgard they often show their affections by making delicious foods, especially sweets, for each other. I believe she may have been trying to show that she felt affection for you."

"Oh gods." Loki turned to face Thor. "No, no. It cannot be. How could anyone feel affection for a monster like me?"

"There were signs. She only agreed to the job after she met you. She said you were interesting."

"Someone loved me?" Loki sunk into the nearest chair and buried his face in his hands. "And I pushed them away."

Thor placed a hand on his brother's shoulder. "She has not left yet."

"Why? Why do I do this every time? I make the same mistakes again and again!" Loki looked up at Thor with tearful eyes. "What do I do?"

"You make amends. You prove to her you are sorry. Then you wait. Do not pressure her. And when she next brings you a sweet, give her a token of your affection as well. I have faith in you, Brother."
