Chapter 38

"Pepper!"

"Yes, Tony?"

"I need help."

"What did you do this time?"

"You see there's this girl --"

"Do you need me to kick out another one night stand?" Pepper sighed.

"No. No listen to me. I've made Loki's girlfriend cry and now she won't leave her room."

"What did you do?"

"Suggested she has Stockholm Syndrome?"

"Tony!"

"What? There's a good chance she might."

"I'll talk to her." Pepper set off to the kitchen.

There was a knock at your door. "(name)? This is Pepper Pots, I am Tony's assistant. I brought you cookies and milk. Will you let me in?"

You opened the door for the red-head. She smiled and came in. You took a cookie and sat down on the bed, Pepper sat beside you. You ate in silence for a while. "I know Tony's a bit blunt."

You chuckled a little. "I'll say."

"But he really does mean well -- in his own way."

"I know, but ..." You trailed off.

"But I don't want to hear it."

"Because?"

You looked up at Pepper. "Promise you won't tell Tony?"

"It stays between us girls."

"He might have a point."

"That's the worst thing about Tony, he generally has a point."

You chuckled. "Yeah, that sucks."

"You're lucky you only have to deal with him for a week. Just imagine what it's like living with him full time."

"Oh, you poor girl. You're a saint."

"I'm not that good." Pepper giggled. "You're pretty amazing yourself, dealing with Loki all the time?" She exhaled deeply and shook her head. "I could not do that. If I'm a saint, you are a benevolent demi-goddess."

"He's not that bad." Pepper raised an eyebrow. "I'm serious! Most of the time he's pretty well behaved!"

"And the other part?"

"He has a temper."

Pepper nodded. "So I've heard."

"It sucks less than you'd think. What about you? Tony's bound to have issues."

"Oh, where to begin? The alcohol? The women? The trouble with the military? Honestly, it seems like there is never a time he is well behaved!"

A warm silence descended on the room. "So," Pepper put a hand on your knee. "You ready to go back out there?"

"Yeah, thanks."

"Anytime." Pepper smiled.
